Lesley Machado Question: What does “Farm Grown” mean to you?

being engrained within the community is always something that can benefit all. It is able to connect bridges of all walks of life with the same goal of enhancing and developing something beautiful for all to thrive in. Q: What is your favorite part of being involved with agriculture? A: My fondest memory within agriculture is every time I had the opportunity to create a meaningful conversation with someone because I was establishing a genuine connection. Whether it was with my peers in my local community or even students from other states, I have been able to learn the power of a conversation and the true value behind a meaningful connection.

Answer: Farm Grown means everything that happens between farm to plate. There is so much work that happens in between that a lot of us don’t get to see. All of the work that is put in to make sure we get safe and healthy food and commodities all starts on a farm. Q: How do you stay active and healthy in your daily life? A: Most of how I stay active is working with and taking care of my animals including feeding, watering, cleaning, walking and doing daily chores in the barn. Another way is going to the gym with my Dad which also gives me another opportunity to spend time with him. Q: What advice would you give to another student who wants to get involved with agriculture? A: Some advice I would give to a student who wants to get involved in agriculture is don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Be curious and ask questions, look into your local FFA chapter to see what pathways and other opportunities they have to offer. Or reach out and talk to someone who works in an agriculture field. Q: How do you plan to remain involved with agriculture past high school? A: After high school I plan to be in an ag related field and learn more about jobs I might be interested in. After college I plan to stay involved in agriculture by supporting organizations like FFA and 4-H that teach youth about agriculture and give them amazing opportunities that help them grow.
